One of Perth’s favourite performers, Lucy Durack, has returned home to help celebrate the State’s inaugural WA Day. She will be performing at a special gala for the Western Australian of the Year awards at Burswood entertainment complex as part of a four-day celebration, culminating in Monday’s WA Day public holiday.
Durack, who is based in Sydney but still very much a Perth girl at heart, said she was proud to be Australian and even prouder to be from WA.
“I feel there is a humble, down-to-earth confidence West Australians have that means they succeed in so many fields without making a big scene,” she said.
WA Academy of Performing Arts graduate Durack, who will star in the musical Legally Blonde in Sydney later this year and also perform concerts at Downstairs at the Maj and the Perth Concert Hall this month, said she loved the clear air of WA and coming home to her close-knit family. (x)
Thanks so much! And yes, I miss it so much too :( especially Lucy and Jem. They had amazing chemistry! At least we have Legally Blonde to look forward to now. Lucy will be fab in the role, don’t you think?
She graduated from WAAPA in 2002. I’m not sure what age she started musical theatre, although I remember her mentioning in an interview that she was doing musicals in high school.

Did anyone else catch Laura Bunting on The Voice the other night? They used this pic in her intro when she talked about her musical background. Cute!
